Yet another fatal accident for a race horse, this time in France, in the Longchamp Hippodrome, 4 September 2022. One of the few fatal incidents we get to hear about, in this case because the horse was famous, while there are many others that suffer injuries, often fatal, that go unnoticed.
Coroebus was just three years old and had already won four out of 7 races run in France and the United Kingdom, winning his ‘owners’, Sheik Mohammed’s Godolphin enterprise, US$900,000.
The video shows the front right leg literally snapping, the horse goes down, tries to get up on three legs. However, shortly afterwards the horse is euthanised due to the gravity of the fracture.
Let us not forget that in the ruthless world of horse racing, horses are sent out onto the track to race at just two years of age, when their muscular-skeletal development is incomplete, as that takes approximately five years.
IHP has always been against the use of horses in racing and other equestrian sports, in which horses are regarded as objects in a market which has often very shady sectors, and where there is indisputably a vast deal of money and interests. Animals which would never, by their very nature, participate in such competitions, are their victims.
