The crackdown by Carabinieri and Police against the exploitation and mistreatment of horses by both common and organised crime continues, especially in relation to illegal horse racing.

In the Picanello district of Catania, Carabinieri and NAS have investigated and charged two locals, aged 37 and 30.

The first man had an illegal stable where four horses, including a foal just a few months old, were kept. The officers found numerous packets of veterinary and human medicines without prescriptions, along with syringes and gauze. One syringe was already filled with four vials of a powerful anti-inflammatory, while another had recently been used. There was also a sulky (a type of cart used in horse racing) confirming the suspicion that the horses were used in illegal races.

The animals were seized and placed under judicial custody at a facility outside the province.

The second man charged, who manages an authorised stable nearby, was found to be the owner of one of the four horses.

On one hand, we see the relentless efforts of law enforcement; on the other, politicians seem to live on another planet, continuously promoting the exploitation of horses, ignoring (or pretending not to know) that many of these animals will end up in criminal circles or at the slaughterhouse.
