...my treasures do not sparkle they clink,
they shine in the sun and neigh in the night...

Volunteering at the Rescue Centre was the experience that finally gave me an on-the-ground insight into IHP – a 360-degree view of each and every equine guest, and observation of the meticulous attention to details of care, physical and above all mental, of these creatures who often arrive traumatised, and injured by life. The approach I discovered here is one which I had not (unfortunately) encountered in any other Centre of its kind. It is through the tiny details (seemingly small things which in reality make a huge difference to the horse) that one glimpses the passion and the dedication of the staff, every single day. This was something that enabled me to immerse myself in a place where total respect for the horse is at the very heart of everything; this is, in itself, priceless.

For all these things I have to first thank Sonny, who created this environment and who has kept it going and growing through his own determination, and Giulia and Ben for the patience and understanding they showed every day and for being indefatigable ‘super-heroes’ in my eyes. You are all fantastic, and I shall never tire of saying so! An enormous thank you too to each horse who gave me its trust, who made me smile, who forgave me for my clumsiness, who made my feelings swell so much with just their glance… (and a very special thank you to Cecilia, a very special feline ).

I am hoping so much to visit you all again!
