I volunteered at IHP for a week and, despite the short time spent, I really learnt a lot there. The work is quite tiring and requires care and attention when doing certain tasks, but it is definitely rewarding. Seeing these horses, which have been mistreated in the past, live a peaceful and healthy life is the best reward for the effort that jobs like cleaning stables require. Even though I had little experience with horses, I had no problem carrying out routine tasks and getting to know these wonderful animals, also thanks to the advice and theoretical lessons given by the more experienced volunteers and Sonny. This volunteering experience was unique and unforgettable. The sense of peace and tranquillity when you walk through the Tuscan hills at sunset surrounded by horses ready to love and be approached by strangers, despite their traumatic stories, is indescribable. Be prepared to experience exciting days in contact with beautiful animals, but also to wake up early and do strenuous work that requires patience and a spirit of adaptation!
