Rignano horses have been moved. IHP requests further information from the authorities

27/11/2015

(27 November 2015)

Another stage in the long and tortuous affair of the Rignano horses: on Tuesday 24 November they were suddenly moved to a livery yard not far from the place in which, over the past month, IHP has been taking care of them.

Surprised by this unexpected move – about which we had not been informed in spite of the fact that we had been looking after them regularly since 26 October, and in spite of the many verbal and written requests for the support of the relevant authorities – we wrote to the ASL and to the Ministry of Health for an explanation of the reasons and justifications leading to this transfer.
We will, of course, be following up all moves to ensure they were made in a manner consistent with the welfare of the animals and with respect for the legal norms, plus to try to understand why this decision had to wait a full month, until 24 November.

We will publish updates as soon as we receive replies to our letters.

Meanwhile we would like to point out that the Comune di Rignano stated in a communication, the ASL on 24 November officially declared that all except one of the horses were in good condition. It makes no mention, however, that this was mainly the result of the actions of the IHP over the past month, as opposed to anyone else’s care.
