Visits to IHP’s rescue centre

03/08/2010

(1st August 2010)
Children’s visits to IHP’s rescue center continue even during the summer: during the month of July, in collaboration with the cultural association “Stella Di Limone” in Montaione and with the Foundation “Spazio Reale” in San Donnino, we had four days of visits, with the participation of more than 100 children and 10 overseers.
These visits are an unique opportunity to observe horses living a semi-wild life, since at Filicaja they live in herds over 100 hectares of hilly terrain, in complete freedom but always cared for by our
volunteers.
During the visits, we illustrate the story and philosophy of IHP, Italy’s only rescue center for sequestrated and mistreated equines. We talk about our equine guests and in general about these animals, of their characteristics and of how, unfortunately, we humans often relate with them in a wrong way, causing them unease and suffering. Finally, we gave our visitors the opportunity to interact with some animals, especially those up for distance adoption and who can be supported by everyone with just a small donation.
The children’s response has been exciting: keen attention, many questions, and willingness to know a new world. These days repay us for everyday efforts and motivate us to go on. We consider these visits a precious opportunity to talk to people about horse welfare, especially if, as in these cases, the visitors are mostly children and teenagers, with will to learn and to know horses better. For this reason IHP will promote even more these kind of experience, with schools and associations, starting by the new school year.
We remind you the center is always open and that you just need to write here ihp@horseprotection.it or call this number 328 6229264 a few days in advance to organize a visit.
