When Spirit was legally seized at Carpaneto Piacentino on 27 April this year, he was clearly a victim of mistreatment. He was extremely thin, with muscle wastage probably due to not being able to move about, but what struck us most of all was the lump on his near hind.
At the beginning, we thought it might be proud flesh, a troublesome but not serious condition. However, further investigation further investigation revealed it could be a neoplastic lesion.

We have no idea when this situation began, and we wonder seriously how come his owners simply did nothing about it. When we revisited the property and the horse, along with the Forestale and the Polizia Municipale, it had got significantly worse.
After a real tug of war with the owners, we managed to convince them to respect the seizure order and we took Spirit away.
He is currently receiving veterinary care at the Fiume Adda clinic, where antinflammatory drugs and antibiotics are being administered, and a biopsy has been obtained and sent to England for analysis. So the prognosis is still uncertain.

We really want to believe that this 15 year old horse, who has already suffered so much, has a good future, and we would like to try to save his life. We really do not feel we can just abandon him now.
Costs will be high, but we are relying on the extraordinary generosity of our supporters and indeed anyone who would like to just help Spirit.
