Azzurra

Azzura was legally seized at the start of 2018, together with a dozen ponies, donkeys, mules and horses, in Lunghezza, Province of Rome. These were animals simply abandoned by a pseudo-breeder who had already been reported many times, before the final intervention by the Carabinieri police.
Before the seizure was finalised, and so before the animals could be moved to safety, many of the pregnant females had foaled, and Azzurra was one of these mares. Her foal, however, was born with a very serious eye infection, and in spite of being taken to a clinic for medical treatment, it was not possible to save the little colt’s sight. We immediately decided to bring both mother and baby to IHP, given the enormous complexity of managing a small, blind foal. And thanks to IHP, Azzurra and Grifo live happily together in a group of horses, all with special needs just like them.
