My name is Danae, and in late September, I spent a week volunteering at the IHP association. It was an incredible experience, spent completely immersed in nature and in close contact with the animals.
At first, the work routine and the various daily tasks might have seemed rather complex to manage, but I soon realized that this is precisely where the true value of this rescue center lies. The challenge of managing everything isn’t random: it stems from the fact that every single activity is designed and structured with the specific, individual needs of each horse in mind. It is precisely in this deep attention to detail that the truest meaning of caring for them lies. Once you understand this, you also come to appreciate the complexities, which—over time—become easier.
My stay was also very pleasant: the apartment provided for volunteers was truly cozy and clean, perfect for resting after a day’s work. Furthermore, sharing spaces and activities became a wonderful opportunity to make friends with the people who were already there. Overall, it was an experience that enriched me immensely and helped me discover just how much care people can give to these magnificent animals.
