This is the press release announcing the "Premio Flambo":

PRESS RELEASE
Ethics, Culture, Science and Sport - weighty themes to be embodied in the ’Premio Flambo’, themes addressed through many subjects and topics by experts and specialist associations and authorities, led by well known personalities. It will be an annual forum for debate and investigation into the scientific bases of the human-animal interaction, with the aim of bettering this relationship and promoting useful research into animal welfare and well-being. It will be a platform for the presentation and discussion of the most up-to-date research, and the promulgation of awareness, firmly rooted in scientific evidence, of enlightened animal husbandry, and how to apply this to animal management in general, and to horses - in particular in training and competition. This non-profit initiative will develop ideas and best practice, based on ethical considerations and science, and will make concrete proposals to rectify inadequate practices.

The ’Premio Flambo, Ethics, Culture, Science and Sport’, which will be held every January, will award a prize to the person or group considered to have made a significant contribution, in studies, research, sporting activities, initiatives or even regulation setting within an institution or authority. This will be a recognition of a contribution to animal welfare, an affirmation of the rights of animals in strict parallel with those of humans and with particular reference to the categories of children, women, and people with disabilities.

The initiative is supported by CONI, the Italian Paralympic Committee, ISE and the AICS and ASI Sports Promotion bodies. The MInistry of Health will also participate. The Committee of Honour has as president Giulio Rapetti Mogol, members of the board of directors are: Eleonora di Giuseppe, Laura Romanelli, and Francesco Beccagutti. The ’Premio Flambo’ this first year will be awarded by the Board of Directors, who will then appoint a committee to nominate future winners, according to set criteria.
