they shine in the sun and neigh in the night...

Help us care for Luna!

16/09/2026

Luna is 17 years old, and she has been with us since she was one: she was a foal and part of a herd of trotters seized in Trequanda (Siena) in 2010. For 16 years she lived contentedly and in good health, but for the past few months she has been fighting an invisible enemy.

At the end of May she began to lose weight suddenly, despite maintaining a normal demeanour. Shortly afterwards she started adopting an unusual posture, frequently raising her right hind leg, without displaying any clear clinical, orthopaedic or metabolic signs.

We have spared no effort.

Luna is being monitored by four veterinarians, including a specialist in holistic therapies. We have carried out repeated blood tests, various diagnostic analyses, abdominal and rectal ultrasounds, gastroscopy, antibiotic treatments, ozone therapy, homoeopathic care and supplementary feed mashes.

At present there is a strong suspicion of lymphoma, but we do not yet have a definitive diagnosis.

Why are we asking for help?

Until now we have covered all costs ourselves, but the ongoing diagnostic investigations and treatments have already exceeded €2,000. For an organisation like IHP, which relies entirely on donations, sudden emergencies of this kind risk compromising our ability to care for all the other animals housed at the Centre.
