Royal Ascot: the reality behind the hats and the elegance

20/06/2026

Royal Ascot, one of the most important horse racing events in Britain and indeed worldwide, masks a reality marked by the suffering of horses with pomp and luxury. This is highlighted by figures from Animal Aid, which report 154 horses dying on the track, 641 offences involving the misuse of the whip and 811 horses sent to slaughter in the UK in 2025 alone.

We have always denounced the hypocrisy of an industry that turns sentient beings into tools for profit, concealing mistreatment, abuse, horses dying on the track and slaughter behind a veneer of elegance.

Whilst Italian horse racing is undergoing a deep, decade-long crisis and survives thanks to generous government handouts, we are calling for an end to this exploitation.
