Today in Tarquinia, the same city where just over a month ago four horses were shockingly and unprecedentedly shot dead, the Palio dell'Anello will take place.

The associations IHP, ENPA, LAV, Animalisti Italiani, and AnimaLiberAction express their strongest opposition to the event scheduled: apart from yet another charade of flaunted traditions and historical reenactments, of which Italy is unfortunately full, but which in reality are merely occasions to make horses suffer for the sake of supposed human entertainment, this time there is also the taste of insult.

"The same administration that, in the space of a few hours, condemned four animals to death without making serious and concrete attempts for a non-violent outcome—as should have been done—now appears among the organisers of the Palio: besides demonstrating an archaic sensibility, the active participation of the Municipality in organising tomorrow's event is further evidence of the complete lack of competence regarding equines," say the representatives of the associations. "A dire incompetence that is clearly evident even from the reading of the documents related to the tragic events in Tarquinia, to which our lawyers have had access. A short time ago, four horses were shot dead, a grotesque episode for which we will seek justice in the appropriate venues."
