Canicattì yard legally seize. IHP: “Very serious issues. where is the ASL?”

08/02/2022

IHP President comments on the Carabiniere operation: “We applaud the police. But recent changes made by the Ministry of Health to the equine ID Register do not go far enough.”

“We applaud the Carabinieri of Canicattì, the Palermo Nas, and the Agrigento crime centre, for legally seizing an equestrian centre at Canicattì. But at the same time, we want to know where the ASL is, because some very serious anomalies have emerged”, said IHP President, Sonny Richichi, commenting on the presence of six horses with no microchip, horses of ‘dubious’ provenance, and exposure of the unqualified veterinary activities of the owner, who administered drugs and medicines to the horses without a veterinary prescription.

These are very serious matters, which have been going on for years, and are all the more shocking because this was a well-known local stable, affiliated to a national sporting association”, continued Richichi. “Too often, our association (IHP) finds itself documenting irregularities which are so evident they could easily have been identified by those in charge of regulation, irregularities which however only emerge when the police step into the scenario. And this is why we maintain that the changes to the equine registration system, put in place last September by the Ministry of Health, are insufficient – because all too often putting the regulations into practice is delegated to bodies that just do not carry out their duties. So, we repeat our question, “Where is the ASL in all this?”
