Commemorative plate to Tiffany

05/04/2011

Italian Horse Protection shows appreciation for Coordinamento Antispecista Of Lazio’s initiative of creating a plate to the memory of Tiffany, the mare tragically dead on 5th March 2011 during the Palio of Ronciglione (see our articles). Obliged to run over rain-slick tarmac and paved ground, she slipped and slammed against the metallic barrier: she dies after several minutes of terrible spasms.

The Coordinamento’s volunteers went to Ronciglione main square on 27th March and put down the plate, keeping an admirable demeanour even when some citizens verbally and almost physically attacked them, destroying the plate and threatening them. Once again we saw the different behaviour between people who care for the animals’ wellbeing and people who only want to use them as if they were objects.

Besides, we remind you, the organizers of the palio decided to run that absurd event even if the Health Minister had explicitly forbidden it, explaining in detail why it was extremely dangerous (as if it was necessary!) make horses run at full gallop over the tarmac, which that day was even wet with rain. Supported by their citizens, moral accomplices of this nefariousness, mayor and organizers believed they could act as they wanted, ignoring laws and ethical principles. Now the whole matter is in the hands of the Law, since IHP has filed charged against them for animal abuse.
