Fieracavalli ancora negata a IHP

26/10/2017

(26 October 2017)

Fieracavalli: for the second year running the Verona Equestrian event will not host IHP.
IHP president will nonetheless be present tomorrow, as the guest of Cavallo Magazine, to talk about Equine Infectious Anaemia.

A second time when IHP cannot go to the show. One of Europe’s biggest equestrian events finds it cannot offer a tiny bit of free space so IHP can tell the horse-loving public about the difficult work we carry out every single day in the name of horse protection. Work which covers legal confiscations, reports of mistreatment, investigations and the dissemination of important general knowledge.

Unlike last year, though, this time round we did not even receive an official reply to our written request, or our numerous attempts at telephone contact. This we find very disappointing, given that in previous years IHP was there, with our own stand, thanks to the personal interest of Dr Armando Di Ruzza……currently the main person responsible for the Show.

At 10.30 tomorrow, 27 October, the IHP President is an invited speaker at the Cavallo Magazine Stand (F6) in Pavilion 4. Sonny Richichi will speak on the subject of Equine Infectious Anaemia, and will explain the absurdity of a law which annually condemns a large number of perfectly healthy horses to death, to the general indifference of the public. This demonstrates quite clearly that equids are still regarded as mere merchandise, with no sentimental value whatsoever.

IHP has been committed for over ten years to the issue of Equine Infectious Anemia, and in 2007 opened the first centre dedicated to EIA-positive horses. These horses by law must live isolated from other equids, but they live in freedom, in a herd, and in perfect health with not one trace ever shown of the disease: they are a living testament that the attitude of the animal health authorities is both unfounded and indefensible, and is actually a ‘problem’ that does not exist.
Richichi will tell the stories of Saphira, Csinszka and others, slaughtered for no reason whatsoever, victims not of a virus but of blind bureaucracy, deliberate ignorance and faulty regulations.
