Reggio Calabria: maxi operation against the ‘Ndrangheta for a number of criminal offences, not least illegal clandestine horse racing, illegal betting, and use of prohibited substances.

Yesterday morning the Comando Provinicale Carabienieri in Regio Calabria, togther with the flying squad of the Reggio Calabria Questura carried out 15 mafia arrests on behalf of the Direzione Distrettuale Antimafia of that region.

Among the criminal charges are illegal horse racing on the fast urban Gallico-Gambarie trunk road, with associated illegal betting, and the doping of horses to ‘improve their performance’.

IHP applauds the investigative work carried out by the Reggio Calabria DDA, and the actions of the Carabinieri and Police. IHP will request the legal seizure of the horses, and will bring a civil action in the criminal proceedings.
