...my treasures do not sparkle they clink,
they shine in the sun and neigh in the night...

Giulia

Giulia is now a beautiful mare, strong and graceful, but when she arrived at our rescue centre in 2008, she was skin and bones. It was our first seizure for ill-treatment and we were quite shocked to see animals reduced to that condition. The owner kept her and other animals in a tiny lot without shelter and without enough food and water. By now the conditions were at the limit of survival. In Giulia's case, the veterinary examination also revealed the presence of a foreign body in her hind leg, which required surgery and a long period of treatment. Hers is a story with a happy ending: today she is well and has entered her seniority. However, she still retains one ugly sign of that period of suffering: the cribbing, a stereotype that develops in animals forced into unnatural living conditions and that unfortunately they carry with them all their lives, even if it does not entail any consequences or physical problems.
