Gandalf is the white stallion that has moved Italy. He was found in Gallena, a village in the Siena hills, where a Count from Viterbo had a huge estate: here a herd of horses lived free. When the count died, the village became depopulated and the horses were relocated. All except one that did not want to renounce to freedom. The white horse, with the passing years, became wild, aged and fell ill. Until a group of photographers made a post on social media: a tam-tam ensued, with appeals to save the white horse, renamed Gandalf. One of the owner's heirs, having tracked him down, had decided to move him to a stable in Rome: a totally inadequate solution. So, we came forward and got the go-ahead to take care of him. With calm, patience and professionalism, we were able to approach him, put a halter and do the first veterinary visits. He was diagnosed with a major pathology in his front limbs, which was impossible to treat by remaining in the abandoned hamlet. So, after starting treatment with painkillers and teaching him to get into a van, Gandalf embarked on the first journey of his life, arriving at the IHP rescue centre in Montaione. Here Gandalf lives free as he has always been, together with his peers, but with our care and attention.
