...my treasures do not sparkle they clink,
they shine in the sun and neigh in the night...

Libero

Libero ("Free") is, so far, the only horse born in our rescue centre, on 16 March 2011. His mother Pioggia had been seized for ill-treatment in Campania and had arrived with a visible baby bump. It seemed as if the pregnancy would last a few more weeks, but instead, a few days after her arrival, we arrived one morning to find this little bewildered fellow running around her. It was great celebration but, after not even a day, we noticed that he had started to walk badly: he had contracted periarthritis, an infection, a few hours after his birth, possibly due to his mother's state of debilitation and stress that had failed to transmit adequate antibodies to him. Our vets gave him intensive therapy for a few weeks: plasma transfusions, joint washes, antibiotics. He made a perfect recovery, showing even as a baby the strength and temperament he would have when he grew up. Today, in fact, Libero is a splendid horse, leader of the group he has chosen for himself and which also includes two blind horses: Stella and Grifo.
