Libero’s condition is improving!

01/04/2011

(2011, March 31st)

Today Libero turned fifteen day old, most of them spend under constant veterinary care, due to an infection he contracted just after birth (read our article dated March 25th).

His mom, as you may remember, arrived to our rescue centre only a few days before, very close to her delivery date, after having been sequestrated due to mistreatment.

After two plasma transfusions and several joint flushes done by our veterinaries, the foal’s condition has improved in the last days: the leucocytes count is decreased, the fever went down, and almost all of his joints are normal now.

There are still some problems, and today it was necessary to drain liquid from an ankle joint. The antibiotic therapy will go on for some days more while his conditions are monitored, in order to understand when it will be possible to declare him out of danger.

Our volunteers are giving him the best possible care and all of their attention, scrupulously following the vets’ orders, and administering an injection every six hours.

But the most diligent of the group is him, this fluffy ball of hair, who can no longer bear to stay coped in a stall and look forward to going out and romp and buck.

Our heartfelt ‘thank you’ goes to the many persons who generously sent us a donation. The expenses for the colt’s medical cures are huge, and we still need help: you can donate via bank and postal wire transfer or with the credit card, or you can distance adopt Libero.
