Libero has come to the world, now we are trying to save his life
Return to the list
25/03/2011
(2011, March 25th)
Two weeks ago five mares sequestrated in Southern Italy due to mistreatment, arrived at IHP’s rescue centre. One of them was pregnant and approaching her delivery date. A few days later, she foaled
a beautiful colt we named Libero (Free)
, since he will never known human cruelty.
The colt
has unfortunately contracted an infection
, whose cause can be probably found in his dam’s slight debilitation and stress; she wasn’t be able to transmit him the right antibodies with her milk. So, when Libero was barely two day old, the therapies have started: so far he had two plasma transfusions, antibiotics (still administered) and delicate washings of his thighs and hooks, made by our veterinaries Iacopo Secco and Agnese Santi.
Apparently, Libero is fine; he is lively, plays and regularly nurse from his dam. However,
the infection hasn’t been defeated yet; only in the next days we will know if he is responding to the therapies in an adequate way
.
This little foal with the sweetest of faces has a great will to live, and docilely submits to fastidious and sometime painful therapies.
Now more than ever we need support in order to cover the high costs of these veterinary cures: help us by sending us a donation or by
distance adopting Libero
.
This way you will receive constant updates about his health and his progresses.
