A gift for IHP!

The Italian Horse Protection (IHP) houses fifty-eight horses, two ponies, one donkey, one hinny and four bovines over tens of hectares of land. Seven of the horses are kept isolated (in a three-hectare paddock a few kilometers away from the Association) because they are EIA positive.

Up to a few months ago, we had at our disposal a very old red truck (affectionately nicknamed “The Ferrari”) we used to transport stuff to the farther paddocks and purchase items. Instead, we transport the hay with a tractor. The distance between the two farthest paddocks is a little more than two kilometers, which means – given the land conformation - about fifty minutes of walk.

Alas, we had to retire the truck due to age limits and, for a few months, we had to make do with other vehicles. All of this until last Saturday when we got a Land Rover from Florence as gift! Monique Cavallari, our affectionate supporter has decided to gift us with a car—and what a car!

The Land Rover will allow us to save a lot of time and to be more efficient in case of need. The gifted car – besides being filled with other presents, such as a printer, a shelf, rubber boots for the volunteers – has a hook, which will allow us, as soon as we get a trailer, to stop using external transportation firms, with another increase of efficiency. Every year, for the animals housed here, we buy over three hundred tons of hay and we use an incredible quantity of feeds, halters, lead-ropes, rubber boots for the volunteers, curry combs, blankets, fencing poles, isolators and wires for electric powered fences, office supplies etc.

We remind to people wishing to help us, that you can do it by sending donations or distance adopting a horse or sending us the following items, listed in order of urgency:
 
- first-cut hay;
- horse feed in flakes;
- round hay bales feeders;
- building material for fences and sheds (wooden poles and boards);
- generators for electric powered fences;
- a trailer for horse transportation;
- basic veterinary items: syringes, needles, bandages, gauzes, antiseptics;
- office supplies: chairs, shelves, lockers, computer.
