...my treasures do not sparkle they clink,
they shine in the sun and neigh in the night...

MAREN, Germany - July 2018

It has been a few weeks now since I left IHP and I still think about my stay a lot. I came there after having quit my job, feeling that my work didn’t really help anyone and wanting to do something meaningful and work with people who feel the same way as I do about animals. It took me some time to adjust to a place where the focus is so clearly on the horses and their wellbeing - and not on the humans, their comfort, their problems. After a few days, I realized how much happiness you get from working with and for horses living in freedom. It was really inspiring to see how friendly they are despite their bad experiences, and how Sonny works with them in a very special, respectful way. I loved the daily routine, doing simple things, the smell of pine and hay and camomile, the small steps of progress that Nina, a foal who arrived in my first week, made each day. The team there is really committed, despite all the difficulties that come with running an organization dependent on donations, and I hope to be able to support them again in the future.
