One month on from the seizure of two of the three horses in Serravalle Pistoiese (read article here), this morning the stallion was finally moved to proper housing, as a result of an order by the Pistoia prosecutor’s office.

Thus ends a long battle, which began on 30 August when ENPA first checked out the premises, followed by the involvement of IHP and a long bureaucratic journey requiring dogged perseverance. Thanks go to the Pistoia ASL (Local Health Agency) which recognised the need to change direction after a first intervention which we did not hesitate to attack strongly (read article here). Merit is also due to the Pistoia prosecutor’s office, which kept the file open and asked for – and obtained – more thorough enquiries thanks to which mistreatment of the horses was indeed demonstrated.

The most important outcome of all this is that we succeeded in getting the three horses out of the situation they were in: two were taken to the IHP rescue centre on 27 September, and as of this morning the third is in the care of Pistoia ENPA.

However it still remains that all this took nearly two months and continuous pressure, in spite of the fact that even a totally inexpert eye could see that the horses were living in extremely poor and filthy conditions due to being permanently shut in, isolated, the place never cleaned and their unhealthy physical shape.
