Colleferro: Holly travels to his new adoptive family. And Panda the orphan foal arrives at Italian Horse Protection Sanctuary

27/11/2013

(27 November 2013)

Do you remember Holly? He was the very badly injured horse found in June, during the third phase of the Colleferro seizure. He was taken to the clinic in Perugia, operated on, then came to our rescue and rehab centre at Montaione. During his long convalescence we found a new home for him, with a fantastic family who wanted to adopt him, together with another horse, a mare taken away from Colleferro in January.
Short though his time with us has been, Holly won a special place in the hearts of the volunteers who looked after him, and a special thanks goes from us to them for their dedication and hard work.

Holly’s place is taken by an orphan foal: Panda, now 7 months old, arrived – a little scared - at the Centre yesterday afternoon. His mum, seized in April during the second phase, died just two days after giving birth. Since then, this little foal has been in the tender care of a vet in the Rome area, Dr Marie Caroline Rengot, who bottle fed and then weaned him once he was old enough. Panda will stay with us for a time while we look for a good adoptive home for him.

We still have another 10 horses to find adoptive homes for (among which there are some pregnant mares), plus another 5 to rescue – we are waiting for the OK to do this from both the office of the Public Prosecutor and the Ministry of Health.

We urgently need to find homes for these remaining horses because the Colleferro Emergency funds are running out and before long we will not have the resources to keep them.
To find out how to adopt, write to ihp@horseprotection.it

We have recently heard that the owner, reported for gross mistreatment yet still free, has brought more horses onto his property. For the moment this information has not been confirmed. However, we ask the local authorities of Colleferro, Segni and Valmontone to inspect the premises and enforce the rulings of the Public Prosecutor’s office. After the seizure of over 200 equines in the course of one whole year and still ongoing, it would be simply intolerable to allow that individual to continue his shady dealings, to the cost of the welfare of the animals involved.
