IHP at Fieracavalli – making our voice heard

05/11/2013

(5 November 2013)

The Italian Horse Protection Association will be at Verona from 7 to 10 November with a stand in pavilion 6 block B3.

Our commitment to equine welfare goes ahead: the IHP 2014 Calendar has as its theme Colleferro, the biggest legal seizure ever carried out in Italy, and still ongoing. Video footage will show the dramatic rescue operation during which we transported out over 200 animals (and still counting...). The calendar has a preface written and signed by Edoardo Stoppa.

But there wasn’t only Colleferro during 2013: we received dozens of reports, some of which terminated in the seizure of the horses and legal action against the owners. Now safe in our rescue centre we have Romina Selvaggia, Lapo, Neri and many more, badly mistreated. IHP is the first of its kind in Italy, currrently hosting 73 horses, many of whom have been legally seized.

We will also be speaking about our proposal for legislation on equine welfare, which will be officially presented in a few weeks’ time. It will focus on filling the serious gaps in current legislation, loopholes which permit mistreatment, illegal trading, and slaughter.

The costs of this huge commitment are borne solely by donations from individuals and from other associations, as IHP does not receive any public funding. And as the number of our supporters increases we will be able to expand our work in all areas: investigations, reports to the authorities, general looking after the horses at our centre, plus of course medical care.
With this aim, we will be presenting Project Islander, an exciting fundraising initiative which will take place in February in Milan – proceeds to go to IHP’s welfare and rescue campaigns.

We look forward to seeing you at Fieravcavalli in Verona! You can meet our staff, and choose which of our daily activities you want to collaborate with....and support us in a number of ways: by making a donation (no matter how small, it really all helps!), by purchasing tee shirts or sweat shirts and accessories with our logo.... ideal gifts that also benefit the horses!
