Come and discover volunteer work with free horses!

22/08/2013

(22nd August 2013)
There is a way to combine a love for animals, an opportunity to learn about horses in their natural habitat, volunteer work in an outdoor setting and a low-cost holiday in one of the most beautiful areas if Italy: come to the Italian Horse Rescue centre in Montaione (province of Florence), the only rescue centre for equines in Italy, recognized by Decree of the Minister of Health.

Volunteers are provided with free accommodation (in an apartment fitted with all the necessary comforts), the initial training and support to learn the basics of horse care, the routine treatments administered and the management of older horses. Based on the length of the stay, a volunteer can benefit from free mini sessions in applied ethology and assistance in specific treatments.
In exchange a working day of roughly six hours would be required, with one free day per week. No specific experience with horses is necessary, only a ready willingness and a disposition for walking, seeing as the horses live free in about one hundred hectares of hilly land.

Thanks to arrangements made by the IHP, university students (of veterinary, zootechnical science, and ethology faculties) and students of certain foreign secondary schools are able to come to do traineeships.

For any further information, you can write to ihp@horseprotection.it or call the number +39 327 9041393.

Our rescue centre is home to more than 70 equines, many of which come from confiscations ordered due to mistreatment: to work with them is a unique experience. Read the impressions of some volunteers who have already been here!
