Colleferro seize, the grey horse taken to surgery

05/08/2013

(5th August 2013)

The Grey stallion that was found with a massive wound on the left hind during the third phase of the Colleferro seize (6th of June) has been finally taken to surgery last week by Marco Pepe Team (university of Perugia); the horse was taken to the clinic right after he was found since he had many wounds that needed urgent care; unfortunately He had to wait to receive surgery because of the bureaucracy until last week when He was also gelded during the same operation.

He had many wounds and scars all over the body; the worst ones were a wound on the jugular area, another big lesion on the dorsal aspect of the left hind cannon that was chronic and deeply infected; also he showed two deep puncture wounds on the right hind cannon.
Radiographs were taken, showing a sequestrum on the left hind cannon bone: surgery was needed in order to remove it and clean surgically all the infected and necrotic tissue and debris. The puncture wounds on the right hind have been curettes as well.

A few days after surgery, last Saturday he has been taken to our centre were our vet Agnese Santi and our crew will take care of him for the rest of his rehabilitation.
We are looking for people who give him adoptive home: requests can be sent at ihp@horseprotection.it. You’ll be asked to answer a few question online then one of us will contact you by phone.

Unfortunately we still badly need your help: the university of Perugia staff has been very kind applying a huge discount to the bill as they have done for all the horses that we have taken there from Colleferro to be cured since January (3 foals, a mare and a stallion) buti it is still a considerable amount of money for us.
Just as a reminder, IHP, Rifugio degli Asinelli and ENPA are paying for the majority of the expenses of this seize, that is now counting more than 200 confiscated horses. We still have 23 horses that are waiting for people who give them adoptive home. The procedure is the same that is described above.
